"A journey of a thousand miles begins with a single step" - so the saying goes. Multi million selling soul singer Joss Stone has set herself an epic mission: She is about to embark on a record-breaking world tour where she aims to play a gig in every country on the planet.
Brit and Grammy Award winning singer and songwriter Joss Stone has established a reputation as a world-class musician with over 12 million albums sold worldwide. This year Joss, who is still only 26 years old, has set herself a new challenge: she will shortly be setting off on the world's first-ever documented Total World Tour during which she will attempt to visit and perform in nearly 200 countries.
In each country Joss aims to collaborate with local homegrown musicians and stars playing indigenous music as well as her own songs. Joss will also work with a variety of good causes and learn about important humanitarian and environmental issues throughout the trip. Each gig will vary in size from a stadium concert in Sydney to an acoustic jamming session on one of Burma's unknown beaches. In each country she will witness a distinctive musical culture, style and tradition as well as discovering the rhythms, songs, instruments and history that make the sounds of each nation so unique. Along the way she will be joined by various high-profile artists and friends.
The Total World Tour is kicking off in South Africa in April. A show in Johannesburg on April 2nd will be followed by a trip to Lesotho, to play an intimate gig and do some work with Prince Harry's charity Sentebale.
Sentebale is providing healthcare and education to some of the most vulnerable children in the world - many the victims of extreme poverty and Lesotho's HIV /AIDS epidemic. More information can be found on Sentebale's website - http://sentebale.org/get-involved/employment-and-volunteering.
The first leg of the tour this spring also takes in Morocco, Swaziland, Tunisia, Mauritius, UAE, Australia and New Zealand. Joss will followed on her epic journey by documentary makers Big Earth Productions, the makers of the successful travel adventure series Long Way Round and Long Way Down with Ewan McGregor and Charley Boorman. They will record the ups and downs, trials and tribulations of this mammoth undertaking.
"My mission isto explore and understand the universal language of music in every country on this planet. The result of music has never been a negative one and it shows us that we all have something in common: we can all cry and we can all laugh. Music is emotion and in music we are all one. The tour will be tiring and tough and I know at times very emotional - but it will be a truly amazing journey of discovery and one hell of a ride!" - Joss Stone
